American Academy of Pediatrics, Maryland ChapterThe American Academy of Pediatrics is a national organization composed of 55,000 pediatricians dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.  The Maryland Chapter is the endorsed state affiliation to the national organization.  This website is a publication of the Maryland Chapter and serves as an electronic source of information and a forum for communication among pediatricians, parents and other persons interested in the promotion of good health for children.

Children's Medical Services:  Garrett County Health Department:   301-334-8111.  Provides board-certified physicians for specialty clinics, and provides financial assistance and education for eligible children and their families. Specialty clinics in: 1) orthopedic, 2) ear, nose & throat, 3) audiology, 4) vision, 5) neurology; and 6) financial assistance for medical care for children with chronic medical conditions. Head Start/Garrett County Community Action Agency301-334-9431. A private non-profit human service and community development agency. Health Connections:  This program from the Western Maryland Area Health Education Center provides information, resources, and experiential learning for middle school students interested in health careers.  The Web site has links to many sites for children studying or living with diseases or health conditions.

Healthy Families Garrett County:  Voluntary home visitation program that empowers parents to give their children the best beginning in life. HFGC provides support to families, answers questions about pregnancy and what to eat as well as making referrals to other community services - such as childbirth classes. HFGC helps parents to identify and respond to the child's needs. Provides information on what to expext as the baby grows, making the home "baby safe" and how to encourge optimum development (including brain development) in your child. Therapeutic Specialized Foster Family Services:  Burlington United Methodist Family Services:  301-334-1285.  To approve, educate and train foster care families for the therapeutic needs of children to age 18. Therapeutic foster home evaluations, education and training; case management, advocacy and counseling.
