AIDS Education: Allegany County Healthy Department Allegany County Health Department Aim for Health Program: This nutritional program is designed to help Allegany County residents lower their risk of heart disease and cancer. American Heart Association: Cumberland, 301-777-7317: The goal of the American Heart Association is time-specific, measurable, focused and ambitious by the year 2008 to reduce heart disease, stroke and risk by 25%. American Lung Association: Cumberland, 301-777-7317: Provides information on all lung diseases, smoking cessation assistance and speakers on lung health related topics. Arthritis Foundation - Western MD Branch: Cumberland, 800-750-9078, TTD or TTY, 301-759-9411: Provides information and referrals, and raises funds for programs, educational materials, and information. We offer public forums, educational courses, support groups, and exercise programs. DIRLINE: DIRLINE (Directory of Information Resources Online) is the National Library of Medicine's online database containing location and descriptive information about a wide variety of information resources including organizations, research resources, projects, and databases concerned with health and biomedicine. This information may not be readily available in bibliographic databases. Each record may contain information on the publications, holdings, and services provided. FSU Health Education: This Web site provides health information/education about alcohol and other substance abuse, eating disorders, emotional maturity, general health, nutrition, sexual assault and related drugs, sexual health, smoking, and other health topics. Lupus Support Group: Frostburg, 301-689-2559: MD Lupus Foundation - Western MD Branch provides education and offers emotional support for persons with lupus (or suspected lupus) and their families. Educational materials, information on health care standards, advocacy, and supportive listening for persons with lupus (or suspected lupus) and their families. |

Traveler's Health/Overseas Immunization: Allegany County Health Department, Cumberland: 301-777-2178 WMHS Breast Care: Go to Radiology Services. Click on Mammography. Western Maryland Health System Center for Breast Care (Memorial Campus) and Seton Diagnostic Center (Sacred Heart Campus) provides mammography and other diagnostic breast health services. Free mammograms are provided to low-income women who meet eligibility guidelines (call 301-759-9355 for more information. WMHS Wellness Center: Click on "Wellness Center" on WMHS Services page. The Western Maryland Health System Wellness Center (301-759-9355 or 800-224-8688) provides a variety of services including monthly screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol level, prostate cancer, and skin cancer; nutrition services; diabetes programs; community health information; and a speakers bureau. Western Maryland Area Health Education Center: The mission of the WMAHEC, a community-based organization, is to improve access to and promote quality in health care through educational partnerships with centers for higher education, community health professionals, and other vital supporters and advocates.
