Allegany County Health Department Financial Assistance Program:  Cumberland: 301-777-7749:  Provides financial assistance and/or extended payment plan to those who demonstrate such a need.

Allegany County Health Department Senior Health Insurance Counseling:  Cumberland: 301-777-5970:   Assists and counsels seniors in all matters related to medical insurance, provider billing and claims as well accessing appropriate medical benefits.  Counseling regarding health insurance, health & medical benefits and programs.  Assistance and advocacy with settling insurance claims and dealing with provider billing.   Education on insurance and related matters affecting seniors.

Maryland Pharmacy Assistance Program:  Helps Maryland residents pay for maintenance drugs for treatment of long-term illnesses.  Available for Maryland residents who have limited incomes and are not eligible for Medical Assistance.  Call 1-800-492-1974.

MedicaidMedicaid is a jointly-funded, Federal-State health insurance program for certain low-income and needy people. It covers approximately 36 million individuals including children, the aged, blind, and/or disabled, and people who are eligible to receive federally assisted income maintenance payments.  This Web site provides further information.

Medicare:   The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) administers Medicare, the nation's largest health insurance program, which covers 39 million Americans. Medicare is a Health Insurance Program for people 65 years of age and older, some disabled people under 65 years of age, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure treated with dialysis or a transplant).   This Web site has information on Medicare Basics, Medicare Plan Choices, Nursing Homes.  It has "Search and Compare" tools to search for information on health plans, nursing homes, Medigap policies, contacts, and Medicare activities in your area.

Senior Health Insurance Counseling:  Area Agency on Aging:  301-777-5970.  Counsels and assists seniors in all matters related to medical insurance, provider billing, and claims as well as accessing appropriate medical benefits. 

Western Maryland Prescription Program:  Residents of Allegany County, regardless of age, who are chronically ill and require daily medications for their conditions, may request an application.  Eligible individuals will have no prescription coverage by private insurance or Medicaid and will meet the financial guidelines.
