Western Maryland InfoHealth is funded by the National Library of Medicine under a contract (#N01-LM-6-3522) with the University of Maryland, Baltimore. 

The Health Sciences and Human Services Library of the University of Maryland is the Regional Medical Library of the National Library of Medicine and home to the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Southeastern/Atlantic Region. 

Western Maryland InfoHealth is a collaborative effort of Western Maryland Area Health Education Center, the lead agency, and the Consortium of Health Information Library Outreach (CHIL-Out).  Members of CHIL-Out include:

The goals of this project are to assess Western Maryland residents' health information needs and improve their access to quality electronic health information.  These goals will be achieved by:

• Assessing the health information needs of Western Maryland residents using an on-line Health Information Needs Assessment (also available in print) to be promoted by project partners.
• Updating librarians' training in using National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, particularly PubMed and MEDLINEplus.
• Developing and publishing a Web site of locally available health resources including those provided by the NLM and National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) Southeastern/Atlantic (SE/A) Region, links to full-text resources, and the on-line needs assessment.
• Training librarians to use the Web site designed for this project to quickly access locally available health resources, including full-text articles.
• Training service providers to better serve consumers by using the Internet, NLM services such as PubMed, MEDLINEplus, the Web site designed for this project, and techniques such as the reference interview.
• Providing on-line reference services and individual training to Web site users.
• Pubicizing NLM and NN/LM SE/A services and resources.
